Vision boards 101 – what are they and how can they help YOU?

by Coach Elena Pezzini

Vision Boards, also called Treasure Maps, are visual reminders of your visions, intentions, goals, dreams and desires. It is a method of using pictures to show where you want to go, because if you don’t know where you’re going, you can’t get there. In order to be successful, you need to have a clear idea of what “success” means to you, and a clear vision of what that looks like.

Creating a vision board can help you not only attain your desires, but also attain them faster. By placing your completed vision board someplace where you can see it regularly, you can stay focused on what you wish to achieve.

(As a child, I used to draw pictures of myself counseling thousands of people internationally and imagine what it would be like. Now, as an adult, I’ve counseled people on every continent!)

Vision boards are powerful beyond any limit and I do not know of a better tool to speed up your dream achievement. If you find one, please let me know.

Why are Vision Boards useful?

Sciences and quantum physics have repeatedly demonstrated that what we focus on expands. The universal Law of Attraction shows that if we focus on what we want, versus what we do not want, we are more likely to attain it. Therefore, to be more successful, we ought to focus our resources (money, time and energy)on what we want.

For instance, if our energy (thoughts, feelings and actions) is invested on everything that goes wrong in our day, we are likely to notice, perceive and attract negative events. Humans have about 60,000 thoughts a day. It is an art and a habit to master the ability to ensure that most of these thoughts are positive, constructive and successful.

The vision board is useful because it reminds us to think supportive thoughts. If we didn’t have the board, our brain may naturally tend to think unsupportive thoughts due to normal and unconscious defense mechanisms and mass media (TV, newspapers, and radio) that feed us more depressing than happy images, words and news. No wonder people who don’t have vision boards are less successful! Does it make sense to you? We hope so!

Even in spirituality and all religions, what people in essence do is focus on what they love by praying, meditating, chanting, and singing. And usually they do it in front of something like an altar, similar to a vision board, which reminds them of their passions.

Just understand that while having a vision board statistically and scientifically heightens your chances to reach your desire, on its own it’s not enough. You must take actions towards your goals and you must remove those psychological blocks, such as fears and phobias, that prevent you from succeeding.

Can they effectively help a business person with their business or is it just for personal goals?

Vision boards are for anyone – individuals, pairs and groups – and for any life area, such as personal or work/business. For example, you can have your own board, another one with your life partners and a third one with your business partners.

For yourself, you can have one board, or you can have several. For example, you may want one board to focus on your career goals and a separate one to focus on your personal life, or you may want one each for long-term and short-term goals.

Making a vision board should be fun! Why not organize a “vision board party” with your friends, or make it a family activity and get your kids involved? Redo or re-edit your board as often as you like.

There are three ways to make a vision board: paper, digital, or video.
